Well, can’t really say ‘who we are’ but I can say ‘who we are not’.
It’ll be another 2 months before we can reveal to the world what we’re creating. But to keep things interesting let’s talk about the type of company that we are not.
1) MEDL Technology is not going to make a Netbook.
MEDL Technology’s first product will be a computer peripheral.
So let me explain the Netbook concept.
The Netbook is the word to describe the new kind of PC that was first developed by ASUS with their EEE PC. It’s a small notebook PC that is meant to be ultraportable. The difference between this kind of notebook and a real “ultra-portable” notebook, is that it is a very basic notebook. You could never have this thing become your main PC because it lacks the computing power and usability of a real PC. The goal of the Netbook is to be small and CHEAP!
These days, they’re not that small anymore. (some would argue not that cheap either) Some of them are sporting 10” screens. Anyways, we personally don’t agree with the whole Netbook concept. Sure they’re good for surfing the net and the occasional email. But that’s it. I’m not sure I could justify having this piece of hardware when I’ve got an Iphone and a 13” laptop. It’s not small like the Iphone, or feature filled as a real laptop. So what would I do with it?
I do agree that there are some good uses for it such as….when you’re on vacation. But I think I could get by using my iPod Touch during short personal vacations.
The Netbook is just a fad. They’ll eventually small PCs but with more power like the cool but expensive laptops that Sony has.
2) MEDL Technology is not a company that makes medical related equipment.
As much as our company name looks like Medical (= MEDL), we have no plans to enter the medical industry. Trust me, the name MEDL has absolutely no origins related to the medical field. Our backgrounds currently are not from the medical industry therefore it wouldn’t be smart for us to enter an industry that we were unfamiliar with.
But this being said, the medical industry is an interesting market with high margins where good money can be made. Although I think the medical industry is quite complex requiring that electrical equipment meet strict safety requirements and requiring to deal with an intricate marketing channel. I’m not willing to go through the hassle quite yet to enter the medical field.
Well, who knows, maybe we’ll do some medical stuff once we’ve established our company in the consumer electronics arena.
